IncidentTrack Lubbock

About IncidentTrack Lubbock

IncidentTrack is an independent project that listens to the public police, fire and EMS radio traffic in Lubbock, Texas and turns it into a live incident map. When a call goes out over the scanner, the system records the transmission, transcribes it, works out what kind of incident it is, which units responded and roughly where it is happening, and puts it on the map within a couple of minutes. The original dispatch audio is attached to every incident so you can listen to exactly what was said.

The project is run by one person in Lubbock as an independent effort, with the day-to-day listening, transcription and posting handled by automated software. We say that openly: no newsroom is typing these entries. That is what makes minute-by-minute coverage of an entire city's radio traffic possible, and it is also why every page carries the same caution: initial scanner reports are frequently wrong or incomplete, and nothing here is confirmed unless a public agency has confirmed it.

What we deliberately leave out
